Tone deaf ?

People all say that if you are tone deaf, there’s no way that you can master a new language, especially a super tonal one such as Chinese. Well, I’d say it takes more effort, but definitely possible– not all Chinese people have perfect pitch.

Immerse yourself in the language, just like when you were a baby and trying to pick up your native language. Try the following tips:

  1. Tune to a Chinese radio station on the go.
  2. Play some Chinese songs when you have the mood for music.
  3. Watch Chinese shows.
  4. Talk to people in Chinese (it feels weird at first, you’ll get over it, very soon)
  5. Think in Chinese when you are daydreaming (yes, trust me it works when you are trying to pick up a new language).
